Marauder's Presumed mission

"...the runway suddenly erupts in geysers of earth, just when we return from opérations against the advancing American tanks and are about to land. Then I notice , shimering in the hot sky overhead, a pack of some twelve Marauders."
Doubtless the objective of bombers was Ballancourt's airfield.
Any information, plans, photos concerning this airfield would be the welcomes,
Thank you beforehand !

 Schedule

"In the evening...
... just when we return from opérations ... ...and are about to land.
We attack them, although fuel is running dangerously low."

Ballancourt's takeoff
and landing to Brétigny.

Weather report

Clear sky and very warm temperature.

Knoke's Unit

  JG1 1944 III./JG1

Description of the fight

"In the eveningthe runway suddenly erupts in geysers of earth, just when we return from opérations against the advancing American tanks and are about to land. Then I notice , shimering in the hot sky overhead, a pack of some twelve Marauders. We attack them, although fuel is running dangerously low. Three are shot down by my men ; a fourth is credited to me."

 Detail 1

"We are obliged to land at Bretigny, because of the number of deep crater-pits in our runway.
Durind the night the squadron is moved to Marolles."
In August, 1944 3 airfields were allocated to the JG1:
Brétigny-sur-Orge,
Ballancourt-sur-Essonne,
Marolles-en-Hurepoix.
If Knoke's Unit landed to Bretigny then moved to Marolles one can deduct from it that the bombarded airfield was that of Ballancourt.
